General Information

Is it really FREE to buy and sell on mummybay?

YES. There are no hidden catches. It will always be free for individuals to buy and sell on mummybay.

How do I start buying and selling on mummybay?

Firstly, you have to register with us (go to the registration button at the top of this page). Once registered you will be sent a verification email that will link you back to mummybay and you can start buying and selling immediately.

Note, to start selling immediately please set up your payment options first. Click Here to see how.

How do I close my account?

To close your account you would just need to turn all your email preferences to the off position, and end any active auctions you may have running.

You would then not receive any correspondence from our site in the future, unless you turn any of your email preferences back on. If you have been the buyer or seller in any recent transactions, you may receive correspondence from the other member involved.

My Username and / or Password will not work?

There are usually two reasons for this:

1) You are using the copy/paste feature on your PC to transfer password data. This does not always work, so you will need to hand enter the password exactly as it appears in the email you received.

2) Refreshing/reloading the password request page after submitting, or sending multiple requests for a new password. Only submit a new password request once, then wait for the email. The email is sent immediately by us, but sometimes mail providers have a delay for spam filtering purposes, or other reasons. If you are using msn.com or hotmail.com email address, you may not receive this email, due to their (our opinion) "flawed" spam filtering technology.

I forgot my password, how can I retrieve it?

On the sign in page is a "forgot your password" link. Click that link to be directed to a form to request a new password. Fill in your email address and username to have a new password emailed to you.

Mummybay staff does not have access to your password for security reasons. So requests via email for this information will be answered with the details listed above for requesting a new password.

I signed up for an account, but never received a confirmation email?

Emails are automatically sent from our system within 60 seconds of registration. Not receiving a confirmation email is usually due to spam filtering... Either by your ISP or settings on your computer.

You may want to check your spam or bulk mail folders, to see if your activation email was routed there. You will also want to make sure admin@mummybay.co.ukis in your allowed senders list.

We resend activation emails twice a week to all account that have yet to be confirmed. If you continue to have problems receiving the activation email, you may need to create a new account and use a different email address. Yahoo and gmail email addresses work very good with our system.

I am trying to register, but your system will not allow my email address?

There are some domains that we do not allow for registration, due to various reasons listed below.

@msn.com:Not allowedbecause their system blocks all our automated emails, which is required on the mummybay site.

@hotmail.com:Not allowedbecause their system blocks all our automated emails, which is required on the mummybay site.

We have no control over how these companiesmanage their systems, so we cannot allow use of these email providers on the mummybay site. If you have a problem with this policy, please direct your complaints to the email provider. Possibly if they receive enough complaints, they may modify their system.

If you need a free email account to use with our system, gmail and yahoo work very well.

Why is my account suspended?

Accounts are suspended for various reasons. If your account is suspended, you should have received an email detailing the reason(s).

Some of the main reasons for account suspensions are listed below:

  • Contact info not valid
  • Buyer complaint that seller has neglected to respond to mummybay admin email. We usually give the seller 3-7 days to reply to our requests for information.
  • Bidding on items without paying. We usually do not suspend for only one of these types of infractions, but we reserve the right to take action we deem necessary after conducting our investigations.
  • Repeated violations of our listing policies. (spam listings, illegal items, links in auctions, etc,.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Members who are suspended are prohibited from registering new accounts, bidding or selling onmummybay using any other existing accounts.Mummybay reserves the right to suspend existing accounts as well as new accounts opened by anyone in the same household of a suspended user or by any other associates of a suspended user.

How do I sell an item on mummybay?

Its easy! Simply login, click on the “Sell” link on the main menu located at the top of the web page and follow the following links:

Step 1: Main Category:

Click the Main Category that your item fits in to best, then choose the appropriate sub-categories.

Step 2: Second Category:

Click a second category for your item (optional). If you do not want a second category for your item, click the text button "No Thanks, I do Not Want To List In A Second Category!"

Then copy and paste your html into the box. Click the view html source button and you can see how your ad will look.

If you are not using your own html, you can just type your text into the description box. This program works similar to a word processor, so if you want to get fancy you can use the tools available to change fonts, add bullets, change font colour, insert images, plus much more.

Buying

How do I bid for an item?

If you have found an item you would like to place a bid on, you can do so quickly and easily by following these steps:-

Login to your account – If you have not Registered you can do so within 5 minutes. Then, visit the auction page you are interested in purchasing.

BIDS:
Just below the gallery image towards the top of the auction page will be a "place bid" box (if there is not a bid box, then the auction is a "Buy Out" only auction). Enter in your bid and click on the “place bid” button. You will then be asked to confirm you bid, once you have done so your bid will be entered, if successful you will receive a confirmation message. If you bid fails to outbid the current high bidder you will be offered the option to place a higher bid.

Proxy bidding can aid your chances of winning an auction and help avoid you being outbid at the last moment. To place a proxy bid enter in the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item. If another user places a bid on the same auction, automatic bids will be placed on your behalf in accordance with your maximum bid amount. With proxy bidding you will pay the lowest possible price until someone else places a higher bid.

BUY OUT:
If a seller designates a "buy out" price, you will see this option just above the auction description. Buy Out prices are set by the seller, if you agree with that price, you can click on the “buy out” button and proceed with your purchase. After clicking on the "buy out button you will be re-directed to a confirmation page. After clicking the "proceed" button, you are now obligated to purchase this item at the designated price listed.

How do I pay for an auction?

If your seller accepts Direct Pay andhas this option activated for the auction in question, you can pay from your bidding page. Simply go to your bidding page in the members area, and click the pay now button for the appropriateauction.

If your seller does not have Direct Pay set up, you will need to wait for them to invoice you. If your seller has not contacted you within 2-3 business days, we recommend you send them an email or give them a call. Some sellers rely on our automated "your auction has sold" emails to know when their items sell, which are sometimes blocked by spam filters. So just because you seller has not contacted you, does not mean they are not interested in selling the item to you.

How do I contact the seller?

Log into your account, then click the buying tab inthe members area. This page will default to displaying your open auctions. Click the "message board" link for the appropriate auction, to send your seller a message or to view their contact info.

Can I retract my bid?

You can retracta bid (not buy out)if the auction hasmore than 12 hours left before the listing ends. When you do this, all your previous other bids for this auction will also be eliminated. So be sure to bid again if you are correcting a bidding error that you made.

To retract your bid, click the bidding tab in the members area. Find the auction you wish to remove the bid on and click the remove bid option.

Note: There is no equivalent for bid retraction in BuyOut listings, or for listings where the bidding has ended. Once you've confirmed your purchase, you are obligated to pay the seller.

I’ve won an item but no longer want to purchase it. What can I do?

A bid or Buy Out purchase is considered a contract and you are obligated to purchase the item.

However, mistakes sometimes happen, and many sellers are willing to work with you if you communicate with them openly and honestly. If you have not done so already, you may want to give the seller a call, or send them an email. Let the seller know your situation, and see if you can work things out to everyone's satisfaction.

If the seller does not respond in the way you hope, keep in mind that failing to purchase an item you have won may result in negative feedback, as well as an Non paying bidder strike against your account. Too many unpaid item strikes may result in permanent suspension of your account.

I’ve made a payment and the seller will not respond or send my purchase?

Although we do our best to keep such sellers off our site, this problem does arise occasionally. We recommend that you send details of the transaction to admin@mummybay.co.ukBe sure to include auction number(s), sellers username, date and method of payment, and any other information that would assist us in our investigation.

We will do our best to mediate a resolution for you, but there is no way for us to recoup funds for you, or guarantee you any specific results. We ask that you use "safe" payment methods when making purchases from buyers you are not familiar with. When we say "safe", we are referring to payments through PayPal as you have the charge back process available for such issues. We strongly recommend that you do not use cash, money orders, checks, or wire transfers to pay sellers you are not familiar with, or sellers that have limited feedback ratings. These payment methods leave little or no recourse for the buyer, in regards to recouping funds paid to the seller.

Mummybay will thoroughly investigate all such claims, then take appropriate action against sellers accounts that are not in compliance. We will also take steps tohinder these persons from signing up to sell on the site again.

We suggest filing complaints with the appropriate agencies below, should mummybay not be able to resolve your issues.
